Sheep River

Sheep River is a foothills stream running near Turner Valley/Black Diamond, southwest of Calgary, with popular trout and whitefish reaches in Sheep River Provincial Park and downstream toward the Highwood River. The reach from the bridge at the Indian Oils Day‑use Site downstream to Gorge Creek (and tributaries except Gorge Creek) is closed year‑round. The headwater section downstream to the bridge at the Indian Oils Day‑use Site (including tributaries) is open June 16 to Oct 31 with a bait ban and no trout retention (0 trout). The mainstem from Gorge Creek downstream to the Highwood River is open June 16 to Aug 31 with a bait ban (2 trout total; rainbow and cutthroat must be over 35 cm; mountain whitefish limit 5, over 30 cm), and open Sept 1 to Oct 31 with a bait ban (0 trout; mountain whitefish limit 5, over 30 cm).
